Before Photos:

In the post about my beloved kitchen project, I talked about how once in a great while a designer plays Genie and creates a masterpiece that takes your breath away. I was certain that the kitchen was that ‘once in a great while’ masterpiece; I had know Idea that I could do it back to back! All I can say is I am stunned speechless by this bathroom.

This bathroom belongs to the same clients as the kitchen project. This time the bathroom was ordered by my client’s husband; he was so impressed with the kitchen that he said let’s go all the way, and go all the way we did!

My clients belong to a fitness club that they were not enjoying. They were always worried about hygiene, so they wanted a spa at home – a luxury spa with all of the amenities and without leaving home. The wife wanted a a designer closet for her cloths and her shoes, we girls know about those shoes, and also a place to work out. These requests were right up my alley.

Four months and several changes along the way:
I went to work, and it was a tall order since the exiting bath was only 19 x 12 including the closets. As a solution, we borrowed space from the outside. The city would only allow 20 ft straight back so we took the whole 20 ft, but then we “L’d” it because we still needed more space for the fitness area, which gave me more room for a fitness room and created a courtyard in the back.

The entrance of the bath before was the closets and the the bath; it now becomes on one side a very large shower and steam room all encompassed in back granite and trimmed in a mirrored and black granite 1 inch tile wrapping around the walls as a trim (remember finished details). There also is a bench built in the walls of the steam shower also done in the same materials while steaming. There is a large rain shower head  in the ceiling and 12 jets (6 on each side ) to pulsate your body.
Floors, the water closet and hall walls, the opposite side of the shower is now a nine foot floating vanity done in Italian Black lacquer with under lighting that bounces off the granite floor.

On top of vanity a mirror from wall to wall from the ceiling to the top of vanity and what floats on top is a gain grey quartzes with sunken black sinks. Now there is bath area with a parcel sunken tube that is a Jacuzzi the faucet to fill the bath comes out of the ceiling. *You know I am having a blast.* In that area the walls are done in grey silk and and set in the walls is a brushed chrome fireplace, and on the opposite wall is a brushed chrome towel warmer. After the heated floors in their kitchen, I’m sure you won’t be surprised to learn that this bathroom also has heated floors. In the ceiling of the room is an Italian murano glass light sphere. Throughout the entire space there are 43 down lights that allow you to create any mood you like. But the great surprise the wall to wall, floor to ceiling, black mirror wall that is behind the tub. What cannot be seen is that with in that glass wall there are 2 40 inch wide swivel doors that open up into a magnificent walk in luxury closet and adjacent to that closet is a full work out room.

It would take me hours to describe all the the wonder of this project, to sum it up, it truly is a masterpiece, a spa in wonderland.

Transition Photo:

As an interior designer, it is my professional duty to strive for excellence. In most cases excellence is considered a positive project completion with a happy client, but every designer has a jewel of a project that pops up and takes your breath away. For me, it was this kitchen project.
My client on this project is retired with no plans of moving, and she wanted to create her dream home just where she is. For her, that dream home had to have the large, luxury kitchen she had always wanted (despite the very limited space you can see in the before photo). I assessed the space and the existing space around it, and determined that we could steal from adjacent rooms to build an enlarged kitchen filled with wonder.
There are key elements in building a space such as this, most of which are centered around a good design plan. Within that are quality contractors, the finish of your materials, and how it is all applied and placed.

Materials in this space: Custom cabinets made of of fine maple washed in a grey beige wash stain; cabinet doors with cobalt blue stain glass (my client’s favorite color is cobalt blue),
panels reminiscent of the past (to tie in her love ofart deco); heated, carrara marble floors; white (to tie in with the floors) quartz counter tops with a reflective quality of silver flakes; and a taupe glass tile back splash that picks up everything.
We were so amazed at the outcome, and my client is truly happy. She has her dream kitchen without moving!
